Macomb Orchard Trail Friends Group
Meeting Minutes for Tuesday, July 22, 2003
 | Meeting is called to order. |
 | Thanks go to Dennis Tipsword, for chairing, and Dave Rumohr, for taking
minutes, at the June meeting. |
 | June’s meeting minutes are approved. |
 | Treasurer’s report, by Chuck Mabley, shows an end of June balance of
$5,028.31. A motion was passed for reimbursement to Lee Sorensen for $217.60
for newsletter printing costs and postage is made by John Tarantino and
seconded by Dave Rumohr. |
 | Current correspondence includes information about a Greenways Initiative
Funding Workshop will be on August 27. Lee will try to attend. |
 | Commission status- |
 | The master plan has been accepted. |
 | They went through details of the engineer’s report. The trail will be
covered in crushed limestone up to 29 Mile Road by this fall. It sounds like
Washington has committed to asphalt. Shelby is planning for asphalt also.
|
 | The estimated fundraising capability figured by the Monohan is
$1,300,000 for the area. |
 | We need to find ways to increase awareness of the trail’s right-of-way
to adjacent landowners. |
 | There are quotes on the cost of completion of the trail costing $8.5
million (on the high side). What is nice is that the trail is being done in
phases so that all the money is not needed at once. |
 | There needs to be a "vehicle" for donations through a separate 501.C3,
possibly the Friends group, so it doesn’t all go through the county. |
 | On Thursday September 4, 2003 Oakland County is sponsoring a Trail Summit
meeting. Anyone interested in trails is invited to attend. Here is more
information: |

by Friday August 29 |
 | Martha Nitz, via Lee Sorensen, turned in her 2003 Frog Survey results for
the files. |
 | Membership cards have been postponed until 2004. |
 | It is decided not to purchase a chipper. |
 | Ad results have been discouraging. |
 | New brochures have been printed and already distributed at the
Michigander. |
 | There will be a Clean-up Day on September 20 at West Rd. We will head in
either direction, towards 26 Mile or Campground roads. John Tarantino says we
will possibly have EDS volunteers working on the project. Ted will find out
about chipper availability. |
 | Lee is working on another grant from DTE for the amount of $100,000. |
 | We need to schedule workers for the Good Old Days and Romeo Peach
Festival. |
 | A thank you needs to be sent to the Key Club for a $250 donation. |
 | A mysterious email received by some says that our meeting time is at 3:00
p.m. Neil Kocsis will try to find out where this incorrect information is
coming from. |
 | Meeting adjourned. |
Next official meeting is Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at Camp
Rotary.
