bulletEvents coming up –
bulletOn June 21 is a Cleanup with John Tarantino and Rich Platz chairing.
bulletSuper Sunday is June 1.
bulletMeet Us On the Trail in Rochester is on June 7
bulletDennis Tipsword suggests sending emails talking up June 7th event and if no response then possible fan out calling should be done by the board.
bulletRich Platz will contact AIS in Richmond about possibly renting equipment from them.
bulletTrail Commission Meeting
bulletOn April 29 meeting the significant news was the FMOT Letter of Intent was put on file.
bulletAt May 24 Meeting a rough draft of the Master Plan was presented.
bulletThere is surveying in progress on the trail
bulletThe Trail Board and County are applying for grants ($90,000) to help out with construction costs.
bulletFundraising update – A consulting firm has been hired to do a funds feasibility study. Dialogue will be started about how much financial support is possible. The study should say how much is possible and give recommendations for the best or potential routes.
bulletThree dozen T-shirts have been ordered.
bulletNo new news on Armada front.
bulletMembership cards will possibly have removable adhesive labels. More discussion in the future.
bulletHistorical report from Rich Platz is that Troop 45 of Armada will be the first group to camp and hike the trail in the near future.
bulletMaria Zardis, the new grant coordinator for Macomb County, gave us some things to think about.
bulletGrant possibilities are better for our group since we are non-profit
bulletShe suggests we set a fundraising goal, but wait for feasibility report. She is willing to be a resource.
bulletOne possible grant from Kodak is due the first of June. Chuck Mabley makes a motion that Lee Sorensen will work with Maria on this grant for $2,500. Seconded by Dennis Tipsword and passed.
bulletDennis Tipsword will chair the June meeting because of Lee’s absence. A substitute secretary will also be needed in June.
bulletThe possibility of the group purchasing their own chipper will be discussed at a later date.
bulletDave Rumohr suggests we advertise in Armada Times and Romeo papers for farm equipment donations. Rich Platz makes a motion for Dave to place ads not costing more than $50 in the papers. Motion passes.
bulletThe Macomb Daily might post need for volunteers in the paper. Dennis Tipsword will check into this possibility.
bulletNo motion deemed necessary for making the next newsletter 8 pages in length to include pictures. Cost will already be lower due to smaller mailing list. A good copy will be made or possibly copied right from the disk to insure good quality and clear photos in the newsletter.
bulletLee Sorensen talked to the Key Club of the Kiwanis at Eisenhower High School last Friday. He has now been invited to present at the Macomb Academy.
bulletA motion is made by Rich Platz to attend the Richmond Good Old Days Festival this September 5-7.
bulletSad announcement – Lee Sorensen will not be able to chair the Friends of the Macomb Orchard Trail group as of next year. He will be moving to Wisconsin. This incredibly, vital part of the Friend’s group will be greatly missed. We wish him good luck.
bulletCondolences and congratulations go out to Dennis Tipsword. We are proud to hear he has been named Man of the Year by the HCMA for his hard work and dedication on the Wolcott horse trails. Our prayers are with him for his personal loss and for him to have strength to get through the difficult times.
bulletVisitors for the AMI (Active Michigan Initiative) legislation invited our group to join the Michigan Environmental Council. Lee Sorensen makes a motion for us to join to show support of the group advocating environmentally safe non-motorized transportation. The motion is seconded by Dave Rumohr and passed.
